The basement cupboard where the light bulbs are stored is testament
to ever changing technologies .. including compact fluorescent,
halogen, incandescent, different sizes and shapes to boot ..

I literally couldn’t wait to ditch the compact fluorescent abominations.
All mine, whether working or not, went to the recycling centre ASAP.

I'm reminded of them every Christmas when I put colour-changing
LED bulbs in 4 of my outdoor fixtures - 2 of them are still the
curly CF ! Out-lasting a large, _supposedly_ long-lasting, LED
in the garage ..

In a cupboard, not far from my shoulder, the lies a multi-pack of 100W

threatened with extinction.

Nah. Much later than that .
I wasn't even born till 62 and I remember them doing that.
I also remember getting sent to the shops for a "forpit o tatties". (a
fourth part [of a stone {3 1/2 pounds}] of potatoes).

Saw a YouTube video yesterday that showed someone making a hand-held device.
A halogen lamp inside a reflector cannibalised from a big capacitor. It was
hot enough to melt flux and solder for surface-mounted components.

If and when I'm unlurgified I'll consider molishing one.

Same era I guvax. The cunning thing about the corrugated packaging was
that you could test the bulb without removing any of it.

Our local "Home hardware" shop certainly still did that until
recently. Probably given up now with the switch to
LEDs.

Haven't seen an x-ray machine in a shoe shop for a while now I
come to think of it.

Last seen in the wild in 1981.

"Believe it or not, this particular shoe-fitting x-ray unit was found in 1981 in
a department store in Madison, West Virginia. It was still being used in the
store's shoe department!

"In 1981, a department store in Madison, West Virginia, finally pulled the plug
on the last shoe-fitting fluoroscope in operation."

That was so you couldn't bring it back saying it didn't work when you
got it home.
