One of my neighbours feeds the local tree rats with monkey nuts. Said
tree rats then hop over a couple of garden fences and then dig up the
lawn to bury the monkey nuts. I hate squirrels.
Today I saw a squirrel, monkey nut in mouth, was prospecting for a
suitable place to hide his monkey nut when a magpie swooped down and
grabbed the monkey nut out the tree rat's mouth and fly off with his
catch. I love it; more grease to his elbow, I say.
A few minutes later the same squirrel, or a different rat, was being
chased all over the garden, by the same or a different magpie. Magpies
are quick learners and copy each other, so I am hoping that there are
going to be some starving squirrels, as food is taken from their mouths.
