Away in a manger
No room for a bed
The little Lord Jesus
Was born in a shed

So all those years later
When not closing doors
Shouts of, "Born in a shed!"
Met with "Yes! So up yours!"

Gospel of Marmaduke
Ch 17a v79ish

Have a good Christmas fellow Sheddi, but above all I do wish us all a
Peaceful New Year.

Thank you Tone and Thomas. A happy mid-winter festival to Sheddi one and
all. I propose to stock up with fats and sugars against the forthcoming
cold season.

While I'm on the subject, may the forthcoming orbit of this grubby little
rock around its mediocre star bring you joy.

I am just praying that, in the coming cold season, the estuaries and
mudflats do not freeze over leaving us those juicy mussels, cockles and
juicy worms. That way we can become fat for the coming nesting season.

I see that this mediocre star has just acquired a new orbiter. Hopefully
this mediocre star will not burn it up yet.

Happy Dies Natalis Solis Invicti to one and all.

Not sure, but they are akin to train spotters, whose interest is not
really birds or trains, but just ticking a bird or train off a list.
They are considered a confounded nuisance to those of us whose interest
is in observing birds, their behaviour with each other, other birds,
people etc. They hear that the lesser spotted twitcher bird has been
seen outside its normal range or is just extremely rare, and they
descend in their hundreds, often from great distance just to tick a bird
species off a list. After scaring off all the local but common birds,
they loose interest and depart.

Long hours of birdwatching lead to people taking heroic doses of
caffeine[1] in the attempt to stay awake.

It turns out that most birds that were thought to be lifetime monogamous
pairs are not all that monogamous. DNA tests have shown that a minority
of eggs in a nest have a different father even where the male bird of a
pair takes a very active part in parenting. This is even true of
famously aggressive birds like robins.

From gurgle:

"The term "twitchers" is used to describe bird watchers who are
extremely dedicated to finding rare birds and adding them to their
lists. The term originated in the 1950s to describe the nervous behavior
of British birdwatcher Howard Medhurst:

The origin of the term
"Medhurst would shiver and "twitch" when traveling to see a rare
bird on the back of his friend's motorcycle. His friends would mimic his
behavior and the term "twitch" became associated with bird watching."
