Discussion:
A Few Questions about "The Shed"
(too old to reply)

Hi all! How is everyone? How's Richard Robinson?

Can anyone please tell me what this newsgroup was created for in the
first place? Was it originally about how to build and enjoy sheds (but
only in the UK)? And if that was the case, how did it turn into what it
is now (apparently a group which covers no particular subject(s), and
whose members only seem to be connected by the fact that they think
they're more clever and sophisticated than most people)?

Has anyone ever considered creating uk.rec.sheds.moderated? Would
Richard Robinson be a moderator? He seems very important. Would
SkipWeasel be a moderator? How about JzG? He says he doesn't want to
be a uk.rec.cycling.moderated moderator (he "doesn't have time"), but we
all know he'd jump at the chance to anonymously reject his opponents'
posts, he just knows that no-one would vote for him following his
destruction of uk.rec.cycling.

Does this group have a FAQ? If not, shouldn't one be written? If there
is a FAQ, why is it not posted regularly? Should I start doing this?

Thanks in advance.

The CFV, RFD, result of the vote, and FAQ are all very easily
Googlable.

Oh, now, people don't ask *that* frequently.
Yay! Richard Robinson's posted in my thread! Obviously he's too big
and important to reply to me directly, but still, I'm very flattered
that he's taken even a split second out of his hectic schedule to deign
to contribute.

Can anyone tell me whether Richard Robinson really is important in real
life, and if so, in what way? Is he the Sturgeon General? Or just a
deluded old fool?

Um... Being?

Was it originally about how to build and enjoy sheds (but

Er... Not exactly. Almost exactly not, I feel.

And if that was the case, how did it turn into what it
Post by Jonathan Dunglass
is now (apparently a group which covers no particular subject(s), and
whose members only seem to be connected by the fact that they think
they're more clever and sophisticated than most people)?
Oh, well, we don't think that. We just sort of drifted together and
found we had similar tastes in conversation, wordplay, and skill
appreciation. We occasionally take subjects seriously, but never ourselves.
Post by Jonathan Dunglass
Has anyone ever considered creating uk.rec.sheds.moderated?
What on earth for? Where would be the fun?

Would
Post by Jonathan Dunglass
Richard Robinson be a moderator? He seems very important. Would
SkipWeasel be a moderator? How about JzG? He says he doesn't want to
be a uk.rec.cycling.moderated moderator (he "doesn't have time"), but we
all know he'd jump at the chance to anonymously reject his opponents'
posts, he just knows that no-one would vote for him following his
destruction of uk.rec.cycling.
No one member is any more important than any other. Some of us are
retired and have more time than others. Some of us work from home and
can dip in and out more easily. Moderators would spoil the fun.
Post by Jonathan Dunglass
Does this group have a FAQ? If not, shouldn't one be written?
There is one. Probably down the back of the sofa somewhere...

If there
Post by Jonathan Dunglass
is a FAQ, why is it not posted regularly?
We never feel the need, really. There's too much regulation elsewhere.
Why have it here, where we come to relax, vent, ask for help, arrange
meetings, rejoice, and share the fun?

Should I start doing this?

No, ta. We'll fish it out if we need it.
Post by Jonathan Dunglass
Thanks in advance.
Yer welcome.

You, sir, are a genius! That is exactly what the OP needs - a Basti
Newsgroup in which he can discuss his parallel universe without
annoying people or getting his ISP account terminated.

Another thinly veiled but vacuous threat from Crapman. He's been doing
the old "Sssh, I don't want him finding out [which is why I'm saying it
in a public newsgroup] but I've got the police onto him and they're
about to bash his door down" routine for well over a year now, with no
results, which is unsurprising since no-one has done anything remotely
illegal or creepy except in Crapman's physically damaged oh-so-ugly
head.

What he refers to as "stalking" is, err, posting in the newsgroups like
this one. Apparently if someone who dislikes or disagrees with Crapman
dares to post in any of the same newsgroups as him then that's
"stalking" and "harassment" and grounds for ISP account termination.
Just as well that Crapman has made so many spurious complaints that ISPs
now don't take him remotely seriously...he's on the Loony (or "Lou
Knee") List.

The real reason why Crapman doesn't like his opponents posting is the
inconvenient truth factor. He *did* post as Lou Knee and he finds it so
embarrassing that he would rather gag anyone from saying it happened.
(Just try asking him whether he posted as Lou Knee. Unless you're
scared of the truth as well?) He *does* advocate speed cameras for
anti-motorist reasons in the full knowledge that they kill people, and
it's understandable that he wants to keep that one under wraps, but why
should the rest of us comply? He's the one who's being a callous
shitbag. He doesn't like Matt B posting on URCM because he dares to
point out that the best way for cyclists to keep safe is to take some
responsibility rather than putting in anti-car measures everywhere:
Crapman *hates* that idea, and he's not about to let an upstart like
Matt B spoil his fun and take away his main excuse to persecute
motorists.

AS the questions were, in fact, only asked occasionally, and then by
people who generally weren't really interested in the answers, such as
they might be, we took a collective yet entirely unspoken decision to
post the FAQ equally occasionally.

Your offer, of which I have significant doubts as to its degree of
kindness, would only be of worth should you have demonstrated any sign
that you are capable of so doing adequately. Indeed, you present clues
which you seem to regard as subtle, that you lack the necessary
comprehension skills to perform such a task to anyone's satisfaction bar
your own.

Why so hostile? Are you one of the "Anyone who dares to oppose the

to jump to Chapman's defence all the time when he's obviously so very

Hostile? Whatever gave you the idea that you are worth the effort of
getting myself animated enough to be hostile? Mind you, if you interpret
what I said as hostile, then that may go some small way to explaining
why you seem to get so desperately worked up about other things posted
on Usenet. Do you always have such difficulties with perspective?

Are you one of the "Anyone who dares to oppose the
Post by Lou Knee
great Crapman is my sworn enemy" lot?
I think that it is more that I, and most people[1] are perfectly capable
of disagreeing with other denizens without that disagreement becoming a
burning obsession that leads to the obsessee becoming rather a figure of
ridicule.

Why are some people so determined
Post by Lou Knee
to jump to Chapman's defence all the time when he's obviously so very
obnoxiously wrong about so many things?
Ah, now, you see you are just making the same mistakes as our
security-service obsessed correspondent. Let me see if I can express
this in terms simple enough for you: If you want your point of view to
be taken seriously[2], then you need to present hard evidence. Yet, all
we get, as with Mr C, is opinion based on apparently deluded personal
interpretation of irrelevant occurrences. If you want to be taken
seriously, you are going to have to do far better than that. If, of
course, your aim is to be taken seriously for the title of Chief Usenet
Kook, then you are at least utilising the correct tactics, but I have to
warn you that I think that you lack both the creativity and the
persistence of the present, long-term incumbent alluded to above. My
advice would be to accept that you will never be in that league, and
take up something more appropriate to your ability level.

Of course, were I to be in the position of having disagreed with every
word that I had ever seen JustzisGuy post[3], your behaviour would still
make me seriously reconsider whether I had misjudged him.
Post by Lou Knee
BTW should your username be pronounced "Jong" (rhyming with "song"), or
"Jon Gee"? If the latter, why omit the space? Do you think it's 1337?
TBH, I don't really give a pair of fetid dingoes kidneys how you or
anyone else chooses to pronounce it, but if you are looking for a
suggestion then I would recommend "Sir". HTH HAND.

Now, come on, old chap, either come up with something rather better than
you have managed so far, or you will have to accept that we will get
bored and ignore you, rather like my cat with one of the shrews left on
the doormat when it is not squeaking much any more.

[1] here in the Shed, at least.

[2] or, indeed, with anything but derision.

[3] which is, of course, far from the case. However, neither do I agree
with every view he has ever expressed. I realise that this is a
difficult concept for the hard of thinking, but for many of us, we are
able to deal with such differences of opinion Without becoming ludicrous
Usenet stalkers.

Utilising, indeed. What's wrong with plain old using?

I think that you have just provided Sarah Palin[1] with her next
campaign slogan.

[1] Am I alone in only being able to imagine her as Sarah Piglin?

Your offer, of which I have significant doubts as to its degree of
kindness, would only be of worth should you have demonstrated any sign
that you are capable of so doing adequately. Indeed, you present clues
which you seem to regard as subtle, that you lack the necessary
comprehension skills to perform such a task to anyone's satisfaction bar
your own.
Why so hostile? Are you one of the "Anyone who dares to oppose the
great Crapman is my sworn enemy" lot? Why are some people so determined
to jump to Chapman's defence all the time when he's obviously so very
obnoxiously wrong about so many things?
The point that seems to continue to elude is that he doesn't post about
them here, so we don't give a fuck. And we specifically don't give a
fuck about you- from our point of view, what we see is a troll,
wandering in here and bleating about the affairs of another group. If
any of us cared about that group, we'd follow it. Some of us perhaps
do,

Can anyone please tell me what this newsgroup was created for in the
first place? Was it originally about how to build and enjoy sheds (but
only in the UK)? And if that was the case, how did it turn into what it
is now (apparently a group which covers no particular subject(s), and
whose members only seem to be connected by the fact that they think
they're more clever and sophisticated than most people)?
Members? I want to see the list right now. And the entry requirements.

And who's in charge?
